The Flavors

I used 4 flavors to translate all 437 tram stops that the city of Zurich has.

1. The Ancestry - I looked up the old-Germanic meaning of some names. For example, I found that the worden “rieden” comes from “roden”, meaning to clear the area from trees. I would translate this with clearance.

2. The Word-for-word Mayhem - translate every single word - and you end up with an absurd but understandable translation. For example, Bucheggplatz would be Book Corner Square.

3. The American in Zurich - I got this idea when an American international student once told me she would go to “Berkeley Square” for a boat ride on Lake Zurich - she meant “Bürkliplatz” I think.

4. The VIPs - some names are just beautiful as they are. Bellevue should not be translated - and Limmat is just Limmat.
